Guided AWS Account Setup

The guided "Use AWS Console" option is the fastest way to connect your AWS Account to Open Raven. Selecting this option will launch a pre-filled out AWS CloudFormation template that you can apply.

Using AWS Console

To connect your AWS Account using the AWS Console, you will need to:

  1. Log Into Your AWS Management Console
  2. In Open Raven, Go to Configuration and AWS Accounts and Add New Account
  3. Enter Your AWS Account ID
  4. Select “Use AWS Console”
  5. Launch Cloudformation
  6. Validate the Connection.

Step 1. Log Into Your AWS Management Console

To add your AWS Account to Open Raven, you will first need to log into your AWS Management Console.

Step 2. In Open Raven, Go to Configuration and AWS Accounts and Add New Account

In a separate tab, log into your Open Raven account.

Select "Configuration" from the navigation menu on the left side of the page.

Then, select “AWS Accounts” from that same navigation menu.

Next, click on the blue “Add AWS Account” button on the upper right side to start connecting your account.

Step 3. Enter Your AWS Account ID

Enter your 12-digit AWS Account ID (which you’ll find in your AWS Management Console).

Do not make any changes to the Open Raven Org ID and External ID. Both are static values and should remain exactly as they are.

Step 4. Select “Use AWS Console”

Select the “Use AWS Console” option. Then, click on the blue “Next” button at the bottom of the page.

Step 5. Launch CloudFormation

Next, click “Launch CloudFormation.”

If you are already logged into your AWS Management Console, you will be automatically redirected to a CloudFormation stack.

All the parameters are pre-populated and don’t need to be changed. In particular, SourceAccountId should never be changed unless explicitly specified by the Open Raven support team.

At the bottom of the page, under “Capabilities,” enable “I acknowledge that AWS CloudFormation might create IAM resources with custom names” and click “Create stack.”

You can click the refresh button on the upper right side to track progress and see when the stack is ready. When the stack goes from “CREATE_IN_PROGRESS” (blue) to “CREATE_COMPLETE” (green) on the left side, it has been successfully created.

Step 6. Validate the connection

Once the stack is created, go back to Open Raven and click “I created the connection” to validate the connection.

You should now see the account under “AWS Accounts” with the status “Account Found.”
